As a recently disfellowshipped witness, I was hoping to find progressive people who understand the consequences of their decisions and comprehend fully the good and bad of the organisation they left. Instead I cannot believe the whingeing of people who end up finding solace with groups of spiritual dunces and social low lifes. If you are no longer with witnesses please at least form a belief system that acknowledges simple truths and has some spine. I hate the lying ranters who use the same old corrupt stereoptypes I dismissed long ago with the reasoning of a child which only witnesses are kind enough to put with. Ex-witnesses should be sharper, have far more medical, scriptural, scientific, social knowledge and abilities than to give time and credence to these users and abusers.

This has got to be one of the dumbest forums I have seen in awhile. It's funny how people form opinions and negative feelings about something they really don't know anything about or don't understand completely. The creator of this forum obviously had an alter motive because he/she does not even know what he/she is talking about.

I would also like to say that... no, I have not personally been affected by a blood transfusion. I've luckily never had the need for one. So, no, I have not contracted any diseases from a blood transfusion. But, I do have an uncle who contracted hepatitis from a blood transfusion. But that blood transfusion also saved his life at that moment. So... I have to ask myself... was it worth it to live his life with that disease, and be able to live his life? Or would it have been better to not take the risk at all, and not be able to see his children grow up? Or let alone, not allow his children to have a father. I feel that the decision he made was the right one, and that the possibility of the blood transfusion, and the opportunities that it provides is a gift from God Himself.

John... You're right. I didn't do extensive research about the risks of blood transfusions before I made that comment. I apologize, please forgive me. But I ask that you please not call me unintelligent. I find that to be a very rude comment that is unresearched... seeing as you really don't know me. It was wrong for me to comment on that one piece of subject matter that I am not very educated in, as it is wrong for you to call me unintelligent... as it is also wrong for the watchtower to brainwash so many people that want the truth. The saddest, and scariest part about it is that they do it all in the name of God/Jesus. It is organizations like the Jehovah's Witnesses that misrepresent those of us who truly believe what the Word of God says.

Blood transfusions:

As a nurse, I can say that sometimes blood transfusions are the ONLY thing that has saved a person's life, particularly in the case of massive blood loss. One must weigh the risks vs. benefits. All medical intervention carries some risk.

Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY, is currently testing a new artificial blood called "Polyheme" on trauma victims. It is still in the trial stage. However, if successful, it might solve the issue of blood transfusions permanently.

John, are you saying that a woman who was abused should not “officially divorce” her abuser and just leave him? What kind of life is that? So she should have to remain alone for the rest of her life because her husband abused her? I disagree if that’s what you are implying.
I agree that witnesses are not to shun nonbelievers, but that are to shun people who leave. The fact that many parents do not follow this does not negate the fact that many parents are told to shun their children. If this is a way to “safeguard” a witness from being lured into false teaching, how sure are they that what they teach is the truth? The Bible itself says to test all things in light of scripture and this is exactly the reason why what the Watchtower teaches is wrong. If what they taught the witnesses were not so easily debunked, then there shouldn’t be a problem with testing what they say in light of scripture. As my Pastor says to the congregation, please always check what I am teaching for yourself, don’t just follow my teaching because I am the Pastor.
The watchtower does have some very good safeguards in place to help people avoid immorality or the violent society we live in, but if what they teach is other areas are going to cost others their salvation by teachings that are contrary to the Bible, it needs to be exposed and that’s why we are here.
I agree with your point on leaning on men for support your every need. That only leads to disappointment every time. It is not in the faith of man that you are saved and lifted, but faith in Jesus Christ and who he was. The Bible says to not forsake the gathering of each other, to bare each others burdens and to confess your sins one to another. There is a reason for that. It helps hold you accountable to your flesh which is always in competition for your actions and I’m sorry that you never found that.

In answer to the young woman who was brought up a witness but had an abusive husband for 8 years. You did have a right to leave him without him committing adultery. As a local woman left her husband in my area years ago, although she remains officially still married to him, and she is still a practising witness. Witnesses also do not have to shun non believers only in the sense of joining them in imoral acts, or drunkeness ect. Where problems arise is if a child is disfellowshipped
the parent is supposed not to associate with them, but i have never heard of any parent being disfellowshipped for breaking this rule,so i would say it is a consciece decision by a parent, not a rule that can be enforced, and one the witnesses themselves need re'examine, although it is very easy for a non christian child to carry their parents in directions they should not go, due to love of that child. So maybe this is a safeguard of being lured into false teaching, or ways not accepted as right. The young woman has already shown she wants her gay brother accepted as he is, but sadly God does not accept gay men, so if your mother holds off from you. You can now see why. Gradually your non witness life is showing how you are changing and accepting more things you once shunned.
I am married to a witness, but never became one, nor do i attend meetings but i have been able to weigh up the outside world and it's views compared to what you once called the truth, and even though i am not a JW, i can see their views safeguard you against the imoral, voilent society we live in today. Your ex husband belongs on the outside and always did, as bad ones always hide amongst good ones in all organisations, but what people have to learn no matter what religion, is you are alone even in a crowd. IF you are an adult, you and you alone are responsible for your actions, as no one else can save you, it is when you expect to lean on others for support and they let you down, that many lose their faith. We come into this world alone and go out alone unless in accidents involving others. God does not test couples, he tests individuals.
All men of the bible are men, or women tested alone, some failed but came back, some turned bad and stayed that way.

I liked the not so informative comment by one who said what are the chances of catching something from blood transfusion today? About 60% according to what i see on the news these days. New things are cropping up all the time, and who is to say a faulty cancer causing gene is not present in blood, they cannot screen for this as it will develope years later. You do not have to be a Jehovahs Witness today to be against blood transfusion, just someone who is intelligent looks at facts then makes an informative view of the risks, and decides it is better to refuse this lethal medical tool and go for some alternative, of which there are for most medical occasions. After reading the bible passagers refering to blood i am inclined to believe God is stearing us away from blood. But if you expect it to say no blood transfusions , remember when the bible was written. It was not last year, or even 100 years ago, but 2000 years ago. I also notice that those who have not become one of the many millions of infected people around this world shout the loudest about it's safety. IF you think it is safe go get yourself a pint.
